The short version
Ride Madison is a free local riding guide for Greater Madison, Wisconsin. You can use the map, routes, trail info, Nearby and turn-by-turn directions without an account. If you create an account, we keep only what's needed to save your rides and stats, and we never sell your information.
- No account needed for the map, routing and directions.
- Your location stays on your phone unless a feature needs to send it to plan a route, search for a place or show the weather.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites, and the app contains no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- You can delete your account and everything tied to it from inside the app, at any time.
This policy covers the Ride Madison mobile app and ridemadison.com, operated by Ride Madison LLC ("Ride Madison", "we", "us"). Questions: hello@ridemadison.com.
What we collect
We collect only what you give us or what a feature needs to work.

Location. If you allow it, the app uses your phone's location to show where you are, sort nearby places, plan routes from where you are and give turn-by-turn directions. We do not store your location history or the GPS track of your rides on our servers. Ride stats are calculated on your phone, and only the totals above are saved. When you save a ride that starts at your current location, the app hides your exact starting point by default.
What we don't collect: contacts, photos, health data, payment details, advertising IDs, or your activity in other apps.
How we use it
We use your information to run the app for you:
- Sign you in and keep your saved rides, stats and badges on any phone you use.
- Plan routes, show trails and places near you, and give turn-by-turn directions.
- Send you one welcome email when you join, and account emails such as password reset codes.
- Send news and local offers by email, only if you switched that on.
- Count views and taps on sponsored partner listings, so we can show local businesses how their listing performed. Partners see totals only (for example, "42 people opened your listing in May"), never who you are.
- Keep the app secure and fix problems.
What we never do:
- We never sell or rent your personal information.
- We never give advertisers or partners your name, email, phone or location.
- We never track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We never text you without your permission. The app doesn't send text messages today, and we'll ask before it ever does.
Who we share it with
The app relies on a few outside services. Each one gets only what it needs for its job.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect the safety of riders or the public, or as part of a sale or merger of Ride Madison (in which case this policy would still apply to your information).
Your information may be stored and processed in the United States.
Your choices
- Use it without an account. Everything except saving rides and stats across phones works signed out.
- Delete your account. In the app, go to More → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, profile, saved rides and ride stats. Partner listing activity stays only as anonymous totals.
- See or correct your information. Edit your name, phone and email preferences in More → Edit profile. For a copy of your data, email hello@ridemadison.com.
- Email. Switch news and offers off in More → Edit profile, or use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. Account emails (like password resets) are sent when needed.
- Location. Turn location off any time in your phone's Settings. The map, search and trail info still work; routes then start from a place you pick.
- Language and appearance. Choose English or Español, and light or dark, in More.
Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights, such as asking us to delete or hand over your information. Email us and we'll help, whatever state you're in.
Keeping, protecting and updating
How long we keep it. We keep your account information, saved rides and stats until you delete your account. Information kept only on your phone stays there until you delete the app or clear it. Partner listing activity is kept as long as we need it to report to partners, then deleted or reduced to anonymous totals.
Security. Data travels over encrypted connections. Our database only lets each rider read their own profile, rides and stats. No system is perfect, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.
Children. Ride Madison isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes. If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll tell you in the app or by email first.
