Terms of Use
Last updated November 1, 2026
The short version
Ride Madison is a free guide to biking in Greater Madison, Wisconsin, operated by Ride Madison LLC ("Ride Madison", "we", "us"). By using the app or ridemadison.com, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Ride Madison.
- You're in charge of your ride. Routes, trail rules and directions are helpful guidance, not a guarantee. Always follow the law, posted signs and your own judgment.
- Be decent. Don't misuse the app or other people's information.
- Partners are labeled. Local businesses can pay for a "Sponsored" listing. Their offers are theirs to honor.
- It's free and provided as is, so our responsibility is limited, as explained below.
You must be at least 13 to create an account. If you're under 18, please use Ride Madison with a parent or guardian's permission.
Ride safely: you're responsible on the road and trail
Biking involves real risks, including traffic, weather, road and trail conditions, and other people. Ride Madison helps you plan, but you are responsible for your own safety and for following the rules.
- Routes are suggestions. Routes come from automated tools and community map data. They can include busy roads, closed trails, construction, unsafe crossings or surfaces that don't suit your bike. "Quietest" means quieter than other options, not traffic-free.
- Information can be out of date. Trail passes, e-bike rules, hours, BCycle availability, weather and partner details can change or be wrong. Check posted signs and official sources such as the Wisconsin DNR before you rely on them.
- Follow the law and signs. Obey traffic laws, trail rules, closures and posted signs. They always win over what the app says.
- Don't handle your phone while riding. Set up your route before you go, use voice directions, and stop safely if you need to look at the screen.
- Ride within your ability. Wear a helmet, use lights at night, keep your bike in good repair, and choose rides that suit your fitness and experience. Ride times, distances and climbs are estimates.
- Ride stats are approximate. Distance, speed, climb and CO₂ figures are estimates for fun and motivation, not for training, medical or legal purposes.

Our app. The Ride Madison name, logo, design and app are ours (trademarks: Ride Madison™). We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app for its intended purpose. Map data, partner content and other third-party material belong to their owners.
Feedback. If you send ideas or suggestions, we may use them to improve Ride Madison without owing you anything. Thank you.
Partners and outside services
Sponsored listings. Local businesses can pay to appear as Ride Madison partners. Their listings, pins and trail mentions are always labeled "Sponsored". A listing isn't an endorsement, and we don't check every detail a partner provides.
Offers. Offers and discounts come from the partner, not from Ride Madison. The partner decides whether and how to honor them, and their own terms apply. Questions about an offer go to the business.
Map data and other services. Ride Madison uses information and tools from others, including:
- Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License
- Bike routing by BRouter and place search by Photon
- Weather from Open-Meteo
- Bike-share data from Madison BCycle
- Trail pass and e-bike rules summarized from the Wisconsin DNR
These services have their own terms. We aren't responsible for their accuracy, availability or content. Ride Madison isn't affiliated with or endorsed by BCycle, the Wisconsin DNR, the City of Madison or Dane County.
Links and hand-offs. When you open a website, Apple Maps, Google Maps, the BCycle app or call a business from Ride Madison, you're leaving our app, and that service's terms and privacy policy apply.
The legal fine print
Provided as is. Ride Madison is free and provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be accurate, complete, safe, uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will fit any particular purpose.
Limits on our responsibility. To the fullest extent the law allows, Ride Madison and the people behind it aren't liable for injuries, accidents, property damage, lost data, or indirect or consequential losses that come from using or relying on the app, its routes or its information. If we are found liable, our total responsibility is limited to $50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Your responsibility to us. If your misuse of Ride Madison or breach of these terms leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim.
Wisconsin law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Dane County, Wisconsin, unless the law requires otherwise.
Apple App Store. If you downloaded the app from Apple, these terms are between you and Ride Madison, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for the app or its support, and Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as third-party beneficiaries.
Changes. We may update these terms as Ride Madison grows. We'll change the date at the top, and tell you in the app or by email if a change is significant. Using Ride Madison after an update means you accept the new terms.
